On May 27, 2025, Education Reform representatives took part in a dialogue hosted by the Presidential Communication Office of the Republic of Indonesia. The event convened young education practitioners, policymakers, and government representatives to discuss pressing issues in Indonesia’s education system and to collaboratively envision pathways for reform.

Education Reform contributor Schalke Anindya Putri brought forward insights from her global education experiences, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges in sending high-potential Indonesian talents to world-class institutions. She emphasized the need to integrate literacy and numeracy not as stand-alone subjects but as foundational skills embedded across all areas of learning to cultivate lifelong learners.

Eleazar Evan Moeljono, also representing Education Reform, spoke on the importance of character education. Drawing from his work in underserved communities across Central Indonesia, he stressed the urgent need for systemic interventions to address deep socioeconomic disparities and the role of government as a central stakeholder in driving equitable reform.

Key Highlights:

  • Literacy and numeracy should be treated as cross-disciplinary life skills, not isolated subjects.

  • Character development must be central to educational practice, especially in marginalized areas.

  • Socioeconomic gaps demand targeted, government-led policy interventions in education.

  • The gathering fostered collaboration among passionate, evidence-driven education advocates.

The event served as a hopeful reminder of the power of collective action—bringing together diverse voices committed to reshaping Indonesia’s education landscape for the better.
